A: The ideal time to start training your puppy is at 8 weeks old. This early stage is a critical socialization period, perfect for building a foundation of good behavior and obedience. At K9 Journey, we guide you and your puppy through clear communication, socialization with people and other dogs, exposure to various sights and sounds, and the development of healthy habits. Starting early not only strengthens your bond but also helps prevent common behavior issues, making the journey enjoyable for both of you.
A: Dogs often show aggression when they’re scared as a natural defense mechanism. Fear can trigger a stress response, making your dog perceive certain situations as threats. This might lead to behaviors like growling, snapping, or barking to create distance from the perceived danger. At K9 Journey, we focus on building trust and confidence through desensitization techniques, helping your dog feel safe and secure. By addressing the root causes of fear-based aggression, we guide your dog toward calm, confident behavior while strengthening the bond you share.
During the first training session, you can expect an assessment of your dog's behavior and needs. The trainer will discuss your goals, establish a training plan, and begin working on basic commands and behaviors. It's also a great opportunity for you to ask questions and learn how to effectively communicate with your dog.
